Evaluation
Scheduling a free consultation with one of our Certified Remodeling Consultants is the first step to take towards Creating Your Dream. While some companies charge hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of dollars just to share ideas with you, we offer our initial consultation for free. The consultant will meet with you at your home or business. Our Certified Remodeling Consultant will take into account your ideas, goals, and dreams, as well as your budget. Within a few days of the consultation, we’ll draw up a labor proposal for your review. You’ll meet with us at one of our showrooms to read over and discuss our proposal, and if you approve, we’ll sign the papers to get started.
Design
Once the labor proposal is settled, it’s time for the fun. Together with our design team, you’ll start bringing your dream to life. Our design team uses the best software available. The software not only allows us to see virtually what the new kitchen or bathroom will look like if walls are added or brought down, but also lets our designers order the necessary supplies and calculate the price totals accurately. Once the design is complete, and you’ve approved the plan, it’s time to get our hands dirty and start renovations.
Construction
Before construction begins, a project manager will be assigned. The project manager will remain with you throughout the renovations, and the construction crew itself will also remain consistent from beginning to end. If there are any problems at all, your project manager will see that they are solved quickly and efficiently. Once construction is complete, you’ll review the site with your project manager. Together, you’ll compose a touch-up list – essentially, all those little odds and ends that aren’t quite finished or right. Then, the touch-up crew will take care of the list, and your renovation project is complete.

Flooring

Hardwood

You’ve chosen hardwood floors. That’s the first step in the staircase that leads to the warmth and character that hardwood flooring will bring to your home. It has become a steady variable in the ever changing world of design. The style and size may vary but hardwood floors never seem to go out of fashion and will add real value to your home. Renocon carries hardwoods from all around the world, bringing international colours and grains to your doorstep.

Modern day manufactures have dramatically improved the finish, durability and ease of maintenance of hardwood flooring. With the introduction of engineered hardwood floors, which is quickly gaining immense momentum, you can use engineered hardwood flooring in many different areas of the home where solid hardwood flooring cannot be used; for example below grade. In addition to its practical advantages over solid hardwood, engineered hardwood uses less material from the tree during production.

Many engineered hardwoods can be floated over a variety of sub-floors without having to staple, nail, or glue-down the planks. The plywood base construction of the engineered hardwood drastically reduces the natural expansion and contraction that occurs due to moisture, temperature and humidity changes. Overall engineered hardwood is our recommendation due to it’s maintenance requirements, practicality, eco-friendly construction and price point.

Species/Colour
Choosing the colour and species of wood for your home will most probably be the biggest hurdle you will face. With a plethora of options it can be an overwhelming decision. Our project managers will break it down for you. First we choose from the basic wood colour spectrum; yellow, red, brown or grey. Next we would choose a grain. Each wood species bears its own unique grain; imagine it as a wooden signature. From the simpler birch grains to the sharp angular oak grains to the flowing circular walnut grains. With these simple questions answered, our project managers will be able to select a handful of wood samples for you to choose from.
Size
Every dimension of a hardwood plank influences the style and cost of the flooring overall. The top layer of an engineered hardwood for example, the thicker the top layer is, the more refinishes can be done. Refinishing hardwood is recommended every 20—25 years. The wider and longer the plank of hardwood, the more it gives off the illusion of a bigger space. So if you’re working with a small space, definitely consider getting a wide plank hardwood.
Leveling
It’s often the unaccounted expense. It’s also the cost that cannot be determined until your existing floor has been ripped up. Hardwood flooring is required to be installed over a flat subfloor. The bumps and grooves can occur overtime in your plywood subfloor. They occur on concrete subfloors at the time of building. These bumps can be removed by grinding and the grooves can be filled with a concrete compound to level the surface. If the subfloor is not leveled it will drastically reduce the lifetime of your flooring. The initial cost is well worth the future peace of mind.
Underlay
Underlay offers a great solution for insulating both acoustics and temperature. Although it’s not available for nail/staple down, it is available for all floating floors and the double glue down methods of installation. Basic foam is available as well as one with a vapour barrier. A 6mm cork underlay is great option for temperature insulation. EasyStep Underlay is an acoustical underlay that has a rating of STC 72, IIC73 and Delta IIC 20. It’s one of the top acoustical underlays available.
Installation
There exists a different method of installing hardwoods depending on your subfloor, your product, and your preference. Nail down installation is preformed on solid hardwood with a tongue and grove edge over a plywood subfloor. Staple down is done on engineered hardwood with a tongue and grove edge over a plywood subfloor. Glue down installation uses a specialized wood adhesive and can be carried out with any hardwood on any subfloor. Double glue down installation involves the addition of an underlay which is glued down to the subfloor and the hardwood is then glued on to the underlay. There are two methods of installing a floating floor. It is determined by the product you use. If your hardwood has a tongue and groove edge it would be a glue together floating floor. If your hardwood has a click system edge then it would be a click together floating floor. Nail, staple and glue down offer a solid stable floor, with no movement, and they may eliminate the need for transitions depending on your space. Floating floor offers a lower cost and ease of repair.

Laminate

Ten years ago laminate was seen as a poor quality and low cost alternative to hardwood. Today, only the latter remains true. With the mass advances in manufacturing, laminate flooring offers the look of hardwood or stone but without the expense and required maintenance. That is why you have chosen Laminate. Laminate has not only become the premiere alternative to hardwood, but also the first choice for many. With its lower cost and lower maintenance contrasted by its high durability Laminate has become the front runner for many homeowners and commercial spaces alike.

Laminate flooring is made from high-density fiber or wood particles, with a laminate overlay that is designed to look like wood or stone. A clear, hard layer is placed on top, giving the laminate floor its durability. Laminate floors have a special tongue and groove locking system that tightly joins the planks together. No glue, nails or staples. Simple. It’s the flooring of choice for homeowners with small children and pets because of its high resilience and minimal maintenance. It’s an excellent choice for active areas of the home. As laminate technology has improved so have the designs, realism and plank shapes. Laminate flooring is not just offered in wood plank designs, many manufacturers offer a wide range of colors in realistic stone, slate and tile designs with grout lines. For every square foot of flooring you have in your home there exists probably a dozen or more laminate styles, colours and sizes. We at Renocon are seasoned veterans when it comes to choosing laminate. Just ask for our advice and we will be eager to lead you down the right path.

Colour Design
Choosing the right laminate design for your home will be the major obstacle you will encounter. There are an abundance of choices and it can be a hard decision to say the least. Our project managers will break it down for you. With a series of simple questions we will reduce the multitude of options to just a few. Foremost, we decide on a laminate style. Are you looking for a stone look or wood look? We then move on to the shade spectrum; light, medium, or dark. Next we would choose a grain or stone style. With these simple questions answered, our project managers will be able to select a handful of laminate samples for you to choose from.
Size
Every dimension of a laminate plank influences the overall style of your space. There exists 8mm to 12mm laminate floors. Don’t be fooled the thickness has nothing to do with the quality. The different thicknesses are solely manufactured to bud up nicely to tiles of different thicknesses. The quality of a laminate lies in its density and locking system. The wider and longer the laminate plank, the more it gives off the illusion of a bigger space. So if you’re working with a small space, definitely consider getting a wide plank laminate.
Installation
Simple. Laminate is most likely the simplest of flooring to install. All laminates come with a click locking system that securely joins the planks to one another. No need for nails, staples or glue.
Leveling
It’s often the unaccounted expense. It’s also the cost that cannot be determined until your existing floor has been ripped up. Laminate flooring is required to be installed over a flat subfloor. The bumps and grooves can occur overtime in your plywood subfloor. They occur on concrete subfloors at the time of building. These bumps can be removed by grinding and the grooves can be filled with a concrete compound to level the surface. A 6mm cork underlay is great option for temperature insulation. EasyStep Underlay is an acoustical underlay that has a rating of STC 72, IIC73 and Delta IIC 20. It’s one of the top acoustical underlays available.

Carpet

One of the oldest and truest types of flooring. Nothing can replicate the warmth and softness of carpet. The feel of the carpet fibers wrapping around your feet with every step cannot be imitated. Carpet is the ever forgiving flooring. It’s not affected by scratches, breaks or warps that can affect its hard surface counterparts. The newest trends of carpet consist of more sophisticated elegant patterned designs. These new designs give the carpet a three-dimensional appearance and pattern which gives it more of an artistic and elegant look.

Advancements in carpet fiber technology and in carpet construction are making carpets softer, more stain-resistant and helping retain their like-new appearance far better than ever before. Among the most popular choices in carpeting construction with homeowners today are berber carpet, patterned carpets and textured cut pile saxonies that don’t show footprints or traffic patterns. These advances extent to the underpad as well, they can now block spills from penetrating and soaking the subfloor which in turn also helps eliminate carpet odour.

Colour Design
With so many choices as far as patterns, colours and styles, deciding on the right carpet for your home can be overwhelming. Let one of our project managers lighten your load. We will break it down for you. A series of simple questions will reduce the crowd of options to just a minority. Foremost, we decide on a carpet family; are you interested in Synthetic or Natural carpet? We then move on to the shade spectrum; light, medium, or dark. Next we would choose whether or not you want a pattered carpet. With these simple questions answered, our project managers will be able to select a handful of carpet samples for you to choose from.
Type
Carpets come in both traditional rolls and carpet tiles. The rolls often come in 12’ to 15’ to accommodate different room sizes. Carpet tiles usually come in 2’ by 2’ tiles that glue to the floor. These are especially popular for commercial spaces. Since a single tile can be replaced easily, if it is damaged by stains or burns, without ripping out the entire floor.
Underpad
Underpad offers a great solution for insulating both acoustics and temperature. Choosing the right carpet underpad can easily double your carpet’s lifetime. Basic granite foam is available as well as natural wool felt. Rubber underlay has one of the highest densities available. It all comes down to one number. The density; the higher the density the better the underpad.
Installation
Carpet is more forgiving when installed over uneven subfloors, such as an uneven concrete slab. Carpet installation is also very fast, efficient and cost effective. This is an advantage as a cost standpoint for the homeowner.

Tile

Tiling is one of the more creative and fun parts of designing your house. There are so many options to consider when deciding where to use tile, and how to layout your design. With such a wide variety of tiles to choose from, not to mention the unlimited variations of patterns available, you can really show off your creativity. And RENOCON carries tiling in a number of styles and materials, in all different colors, sizes, and shapes. We carry just about every tile material you can think of, from the more standard choices of porcelain, ceramic, glass, metal, and natural stone, to the more exotic choices, like leather, wood clay, resin, mother of pearl, fossils, and concrete.

Ceramic Tiles
Very common in bathrooms, ceramic tiles can also work in your kitchen. This glazed, ceramic based tile cleans easily, is nonporous, and is available in many colors and styles. One downfall to ceramic tiling is if it chips or cracks, you’ll be able to tell from a distance, since the base is a different color than the glaze. A popular style you may want to consider is the subway tile. This is created with 3” x 6” or 4” x 8” tiles, laid out in a brick pattern.
Porcelain Tiles
Porcelain tiles are known for their imitation of real stone, since they vary slightly from tile to tile. Porcelain tiles are consistent in color and material throughout. So, if porcelain tile chips, you won’t see it as easily as you do with ceramic tiling. Durable and visually appealing, porcelain tiling is available at a great price, making it a popular choice.
Glass Tiles
You can design a truly unique bathroom with glass tiles. Some people use glass tiling for borders or mosaics. Also, because light reflects off each tile, which in turn highlights others, glass tiles create an absolutely beautiful look. Installation can be tricky, but it’s well worth the extra effort. Once considered to be out of the budget range of many people, glass tiling is now more affordable.
Marble Tiles
Marble offers a classical look to a modern kitchen. With varying texture and tones, marble is available in large range of colorings. While beautiful, marble requires polishing every few years, not something busy people are always interested in dealing with. A couple other disadvantages you’ll want to keep in mind.
Metal Tiles
Metal tiling is the newest trend in remodeling. Metal is often paired with other tiling options, like stone or glass, and used for borders or mosaics. Metal tiling is expensive, as well, making it a choice usually saved for accents.

Cork

Not just a stopper for you ’95 Merlot. Cork is one of the most environmentally friendly products in the flooring industry today. Cork survives without the use of chemical herbicides, fertilizers or irrigation, and is the only tree that regenerates after harvesting. It’s also one of the best ways to insulate your floors over the cold winter months. Cork flooring has a diverse collection of colors and patterns, so it can blend well with you chosen theme. Cork has a unique grain, which will add a distinctive character to your living space. The common mistake people make is to assume that like corkboard, cork must be malleable in nature. This is far from the truth as possible and you will be surprised to know that cork is very durable product. Another advantage of cork that sets it apart from hardwood is that it is moisture-proof.

Colour Design
You’ve chosen cork as your flooring. Now it’s time to fine tune your choice to a specific look. Plenty of choices are available to you as a shopper. Allow us to lend you our design eyes to select the Cork floor that best suits your chosen style. Start off with the shade spectrum; light, medium, or dark. Next choose a cork grain. These two simple questions answered it will draw your focus to a handful of cork samples to choose from.
Installation
Effortless. Corks industry standard is in its locking systems, which makes it very easy for installation. It’s very similar to in installation of laminate a similar click system. This ensures that the boards will stay locked tightly together.
Leveling
It’s often the unaccounted expense. It’s also the cost that cannot be determined until your existing floor has been ripped up. Cork flooring is required to be installed over a flat subfloor. The bumps and grooves can occur overtime in your plywood subfloor. They occur on concrete subfloors at the time of building. These bumps can be removed by grinding and the grooves can be filled with a concrete compound to level the surface. It’s one of the top acoustical underlays available.

Vinyl

Resilience in silence. The look of tile and wood with the comforts of carpet. The elasticity of vinyl allows it to spring back into form after a release of pressure. No other floor covering category offers the variety of colors and patterns as vinyl flooring. It imitates almost all flooring. Thanks to some great advancement in styling and technology, today’s vinyl floors have been changed forever. The unique manufacturing processes used today can replicate the look and textures of real ceramic tile, stone and wood grains. Vinyl floors are manufactured in both sheet and tile. The vinyl sheet floors are offered in both 6 foot and 12 foot widths and the vinyl tiles come in various sizes and thicknesses. Both types of vinyl floors come in a wide array of patterns and colors. Higher end vinyl floors offer better resistance to staining, scratches, gouges and tearing. Not only is the performance better but so is the warranty on the high-end vinyl floors. Also, as you go up in quality you will also notice improved styling and more textural realism in these floors. Easy on the knees and easy on the eyes; vinyl flooring is the comfort choice for you.

Colour Design
Plenty of choices are available to you as a shopper. With its ability to emulate tile, stone, and wood among other patterns it can be a difficult choice to say the least. Allow us to lend you our design eyes to select the vinyl floor that best suits your chosen style. Select a pattern first and foremost. Are you looking to emulate tile, stone or wood? Then look at the shades; light, medium, or dark. Finally pick the desired look from our vast selection. We will be right there giving you our insights and recommendations.

This is a simple one. Are you looking for a vinyl tile or vinyl roll? Depending on your room layout, we will give you our advice as to which one best fit your space.
Installation
Vinyl is more forgiving when installed over uneven subfloors, such as an uneven concrete slab. Vinyl installation is also very fast, efficient and cost effective. This is an advantage as a cost standpoint for the homeowner.

Painting

Do you have a space in need of a facelift? Painting a room or the entire home can often be the biggest change for the least amount of money. Add some colour, get a fresh coat, or how about just an accent wall; painting your space will give you the best bang for your buck!

Primer
Some may think that using a primer is optional. To have a proper paint job completed, you must have a solid foundation. You can use the most advanced and expensive paint, but if it doesn’t have a proper foundation it won’t do it justice. Primer is specially formulated to make sure the top coat of paint adheres to the surface below, creating the best-looking, longest-lasting finish. Primers are engineered for aggressive filling and binding with underlying surfaces. If your top coat of paint begins peeling or soaks unevenly into the surface it’s because a proper primer wasn’t used. In all of our jobs primer is not optional, it’s a necessity!
Colours
Colour can be a shape-shifter in different settings. Most designers test colours in their intended environment to anticipate changes that might occur with different lighting. Colours that everyone loved on a selection board can take on a whole new feel in the context of a finished room. The turquoise-and-yellow combination that looked merely spunky on sample chips can positively vibrate in large doses. Of course colour is subjective. We as designers rely on your wants and needs, and with that knowledge we consider the colour schemes with whom they interact and in the context of where it will be applied.
Paint Sheen
At first glance, paint sheen may seem like a minor design consideration — especially when compared to colour. However it’s important, picking the ideal sheen for a paint job involves important visual and functional considerations. High-sheen or glossy surfaces are typically easier to keep clean. These paint formulations traditionally produce the toughest and most stain-resistant finishes – that’s why high-gloss finishes are common in bathrooms, high-traffic areas and kids’ rooms. Aesthetically speaking, sheen or gloss does draw attention to a given surface, especially indoors. This includes even the smallest flaws. If the intention is to hide or downplay a space, high-sheen paint should be avoided. Most brands of paint come in several sheens, and both latex and oil-based paints are available in different sheen levels. Gloss sheens have the highest light-reflective characteristics. Next are semi gloss sheens; then satin, eggshell, or low-lustre sheens; and then flat or matte sheens.
