Project Description

This was a full renovation for a couple living in a 2 bed 2 bath condo in Vancouver’s West End. Our clients were both realtors so they had a good idea of which design aspects would add the most amount of value, and they utilized our ability to design smartly to achieve this. They lived close to the beach and wanted that light, modern, open, west coast style. They required their bathrooms to have more functional layouts, and to make their main living area and kitchen a better entertainment space as they love having large gatherings.

Background on the building and unit prior to Renocon’s involvement.

The building was constructed in 1989. The well built 25 story tower has 104 residential units, and offers a wide variety of appealing amenities. Most units have uniquely large patio spaces.

This is our first step. We imagine the space by lining it up with our client’s lifestyle. Reimagined space that pushes the limitations of what is possible in concrete condos.

Working in concrete buildings always has various challenges when changing a floor plan and plumbing. We were able to create an open connected space between the kitchen, dining and living room by removing the existing kitchen wall. We changed the master ensuite layout, by moving the doorway, giving room for a large walk in shower and by removing the existing tub we were able to make a better use of space. For the second bathroom, we were able to maximize the storage and create enough space to put a tub into the space, by removing the laundry wall.

The conceptual birth of your future space starts here. Creativity, inspiration and cutting edge materials are what Renocon uses to make your dream a reality.

Incorporating the dining space into the kitchen allowed the area to flow and feel connected, which created an area where the clients could entertain and people could gather. For the overall design, we chose light, neutral and bright colours to reflect that modern, clean, beach feel that they wanted. By extending the kitchen, removing handles and giving them more storage,, we were additionally able to create a minimalistic look throughout all of the spaces, including the bathrooms. Alongside these elements, by smartly placing lighting throughout the spaces, we made their home feel much bigger and brighter.

Here we show you some of the key design decisions made in this project and how they impacted the overall spaceplan and desired outcome from the clients.

To achieve this clean look we went with white painted cabinets with C-channels on top of the doors, we then used wood veneer on the upper cabinets with hidden channels on the bottom of the doors. The contrast in colours and materials created sleek appearance. For increased durability, we went with plywood cabinet boxes, Blum hardware and Legra drawer systems. We created channels on the bottom of the upper cabinets to house LED strip lighting.

Connecting the island and the dining table increased functionality of the space, instead of just having one long island. It combined the dining, living and kitchen area, achieving the clients needs for a more sociable space. We created a matching box to hide the hood fan in the ceiling, this ensured it blended in with the design and matched with the rest of the kitchen.

Ensuite Vanity.

The challenge with this bathroom was to come up with a new layout, considering we had to use all of the existing plumbing and drain locations. By moving the doorway and the vanity to the existing tub location, we were able to create a better flow in both bathroom and bedroom. To follow our design concept, we designed a simple looking vanity and medicine cabinet, with strip lighting under both, providing a lot of storage but still allowing it to flow with the rest of the space.

Ensuite Shower.

For this amazing walk in shower in the master ensuite we created a floor to ceiling niche with glass shelving. A hidden tile-able linear drain in front of the niche sits parallel to the shower floor tiles, this along with the frameless glass enclosure continues the clean look the clients were after. We were able to create a built in seat inside the shower, which had a quartz top to match the vanity top and the shower curb.

Guest Bath & Laundry.

The main thing for this bathroom was to make it feel more open and bright by removing the wall between the shower and laundry room, and converting the existing shower to a tub, since we had removed the tub from the master bathroom. With the medicine cabinet along the wall above the vanity, the bathroom feels visually longer and it also provides plenty of storage. We used a 2 sided finished tub, this avoided having to build a pony wall between the tub and laundry area and also maximized the space for the laundry area sitting behind the frosted glass.

Proudly present the final product of all of our services combined to create a lifestyle space uniquely for our client.
To say that our expectations in working with the Reconon team were exceeded, would be a great understatement! We are thrilled with how the entire reno project turned out. We have a 2-bedroom condo in the West End, downtown Vancouver and wanted to open up the kitchen, re-do the 2 bathrooms and generally give the condo a more modern look and feel. We found Renocon on HOUZZ and decided to interview them along with 2 other local design companies. We were instantly impressed with what we heard at our first meeting, that we didn’t even bother to meet with the other 2 companies. The ideas and concepts that the team came up with really blew our minds! Since the first meeting with the Renocon team all the way to the completion of our renovation project – we were so very happy with all aspects. The team at Renocon are very professional, highly knowledgeable, skilled and just a joy to work with! We are so in love with our newly renovated condo, and everyone who now comes to visit can’t believe the transformation! It’s everything (and more) that we hoped for. Handing over the keys and coming home to a gorgeous new space was the best decision we could have ever made! We highly recommend the team at Renocon (and we already have) to friends and family. We most definitely would use their services again.
